Kyoosang Choi, AKA MonQ, is a Los Angeles based artist, who makes eccentric and obsessive works in many visual forms, including pen drawing, painted panels, silverpoint, etching, spray paint, and digital.
As Leonardo da Vinci dissected bodies to ‘understand’ the body and to paint them, the first goal MonQ had was to ‘understand’ the world he paints. But while he traveled around the world since young and studied art in School of Visual Arts, New York, he experienced and learned about various aspects and perspectives and dimensions co-existing in one world, we all live in. And there wasn’t ‘a way’ to understand it. So he decided to dissect the world into pixels, gave value to them as mosaics, and recomposed them, to study, experiment, and explain the world as a form of visual art.
MonQ still is on his journey to have better understanding of the world we live in. And indeed, he stays fearless on walking into unknown world and experimenting, while he takes time to study classics and traditions. He believes that boundless knowledge from past, clear recognition of the present, and careful prediction and wild imagination towards future will let him MAKE REAL.
